Journalism 205 Journey Begins

Freshman year, second quarter, nervously walking into journalism 205 thinking their were not many students; the teacher began talking and I wanted to learn how to write.

My thoughts on this class at first were I don’t know how I’m going to get through this, I’m not a good writer. Two weeks in, and journalism 205 sparked my interest. This is not just a board journalism class, it is focused on my favorite subject, agriculture. The second class we talk about agricultural issues, and are assigned a group project. We pick Dairy Practices as our project. Beginning with all our knowledge of the industry I can see that the project will be a success.

ag journalismBeing passionate for agriculture will help me be a success in this class. As well as, growing up on a dairy farm gives me my agriculture insight, and experience that I can write about. Coming into Cal Poly as a Agriculture Communication major, I will be able to write, speak, and do what I love with my passion for the agriculture industry once I have my degree. First step to the degree, taking journalism 205, a mandatory class.

Nothing of what I expected. Opening up my Associated Press handbook, makes me realize how much I have to learn. From active to passive voice, I can tell this class will improve my writing skills.

Always struggling with being a good writer, this class is where I will become the writer I want to be. Masanobu Fukuoka said, “The ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings.” This perfection needs to be shared by the world, and I will do that starting  my journey with journalism 205. Through the class I will gain skills to prepare me for success in the professional agricultural journalistic world.
